The Lokerse Feesten is a ten-day city festival that takes place during the month of August in Lokeren, East Flanders, Belgium. The Lokerse Feesten took place for the first time in 1975. The 44th edition takes place from Friday 3 August to Sunday 12 August 2018.
What started as a small party, organized by local youth clubs and some enthusiasts, grew into a full 10 day (city) festival in 42 years. The festival site at Grote Kaai has a capacity of 15,000 visitors today. The term “Lokerse Feesten” has become a collective name for all activities within the 10 days in the city center of Lokeren (just as happened with the Ghent Festivities.) During the Lokerse Feesten visitors can also visit the Fonnefeesten, a second festival site that Located in the Princess Josephine Charlottepark, this park used to be home to the Polifonics festival, which had its last edition in 2013. Until 2014, the Fonnefeesten took place on the Oude Vismijn van Lokeren, after which they moved to the current location.
Throughout the years, the festival welcomed a lot of big domestic and foreign names. A few examples: Snoop Dogg, Simple Minds, The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, Iggy & The Stooges, Madness, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Human League, the Sex Pistols, Sinéad O’Connor, Morrissey, Front 242, Neil Young and Blink-182.
