Jan Yperman Hospital: explore before your visit

Jan Yperman Hospital: explore before your visit
Summarize this case with:

A hospital virtual tour to prepare for the first visit

A hospital visit often starts at home. Patients want to know where to go, what their room looks like and what to expect when they arrive. For Jan Yperman Hospital in Ypres, Belgium, Poppr created an interactive 360° virtual tour that makes selected hospital environments visible in advance. Patients, visitors and family members can explore at their own pace, with relevant information connected to the spaces they see.

Getting to know the hospital

The hospital wanted to present several departments through virtual visits on its website. A patient preparing for an appointment can explore registration and reception. Parents can look around the children’s department and playrooms. Someone planning a hospital stay can see how a patient room is arranged. Family members can explore alongside them and discuss questions before the visit.

The tour provides a visual complement to the hospital’s information. Appointment details, medical advice and care instructions remain with the care teams.

From reception to specialist departments

Poppr brought different parts of the hospital together in one interactive experience. The tour includes reception, registration, patient rooms, paediatrics, maternity, operating facilities, recovery and rehabilitation. It was expanded to include:

  • Radiology spaces for CT, ultrasound, mammography, MRI and X-ray examinations.
  • The oncology day hospital, including registration, treatment areas, a patient room and a lounge.
  • Delivery facilities and neonatal care.
  • The catheterisation laboratory, the Da Vinci robot in the operating department, emergency care and the palliative care unit.

The overview lets visitors choose the spaces most relevant to them. Individual scenes have their own links, allowing a particular department to be shared directly.

Information at the point of interest

Interactive information points connect the panoramic images to focused explanations. In the registration area, visitors can learn about the check-in kiosks. Reception information explains the hospital’s route numbers. Patient rooms and examination spaces include context about facilities and equipment.

Visitors can look around, select a point of interest and read more. For hospital communication teams, this provides a practical structure for presenting departmental information alongside the environment it describes.

Production coordinated with hospital operations

Photography was planned with the different departments around room availability and day-to-day operations. The hospital supplied information and participated in reviewing the images and information points. Poppr handled the 360° photography, navigation and development of the interactive tour.

A hospital virtual tour with room to grow

The expansion at Jan Yperman shows how additional spaces and information can become part of an existing experience. An initial tour can focus on a defined group of patients or a specific department. This gives the team a manageable starting point for developing the content before considering further departments.
